FROM OUR READING COACH Directory The Back to School Message from our Principal, Mr. Phillip Jackson. Back to School 2020-2021 PARENTS, PLEASE NOTE BELOW!! Your child’s teacher will contact you with further information! Sumter School District will welcome our students back through virtual instruction August 28. Executive staff will re-evaluate our status every thirty days in accordance with CDC/DHEC guidelines. Once it is safe to do so, the district will transition to a hybrid model for instruction. Please note, virtual instruction will remain an option for the entire school year, and parents will be provided a two week notice for any transition to a hybrid model. In addition, the South Carolina General Assembly has approved funding for five additional in person Learn, Evaluate, Analyze and Prepare (LEAP) days before the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Although student attendance is not mandatory, these days must be offered to students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. In an effort to plan accordingly for adequate staffing and transportation for both the LEAP days and the transition to hybrid instruction, please take a few moments to complete this form. Reopening of Schools Commitment Form Information April 6, 2020 Information March 25, 2020 Message The district’s Clever portal provides students and teachers a single point of access to resources and applications. This reduces the time they would otherwise have to spend searching for links to resources posted in a classroom and typing in usernames and passwords. Students and parents needing IT support after work hours can email a short description of the problem and a call back number to studentsupport@sumterschools.net. March 15, 2020 Coronavirus Update Per order of the Governor, all schools in Sumter School District will be closed due to the coronavirus for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16 through March 31, 2020. All school activities are suspended. During this time, teachers will offer an alternative pathway to learning, which is online instruction beginning Monday, March 16. Parents of students in grades first through twelve who do not have access to an electronic device may retrieve a Chromebook from their school on Monday, March 16 from 3-5 PM; Tuesday, March 17 from 8-10 AM, 12-2 PM, and 3-5 PM; and Wednesday, March 18 from 8-10 AM and 12-2 PM. Parents of prekindergarten and kindergarten students may retrieve educational packets of information during these times as well. Although online instruction begins Monday, students who do not have immediate access to a device will not be penalized. If a family does not have access to WIFI at home, they may access WIFI in the parking lots of the schools to download and submit assignments. Sumter School District will continue to provide students with a meal during the district’s two-week closure. Through a snatch-a-snack process, breakfast and lunch will be distributed Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 in the bus pick-up area at each school with breakfast available from 7 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students must be present at the time of pick up as no food will be consumed on site. Information regarding the distribution of food the following week will be communicated. If families experience difficulties regarding the ability to retrieve a device or a meal, please contact your school’s principal.
